Dr. Mavis Owureku-Asare is an accomplished food scientist and agribusiness development specialist with extensive expertise in value addition technologies, sustainable food systems, and enterprise development. She currently serves as the Deputy General Manager, Business Advisory at the Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM), where she plays a strategic role in driving the Bank’s mandate of facilitating export-led growth and industrialization.
In her current capacity, Dr. Owureku-Asare provides technical and strategic advisory support to businesses across diverse sectors, particularly agribusiness and food processing. She works closely with entrepreneurs and enterprises to strengthen business models, improve operational efficiencies, and enhance market competitiveness. Her leadership ensures that GEXIM’s interventions not only provide financial support but also empower businesses with the knowledge and tools necessary for sustainable growth. In her role, she ensures that GEXIM’s business advisory interventions extend beyond financial support to provide businesses with the knowledge, tools, and capabilities required for long-term sustainable growth.
Beyond her role at GEXIM, Dr. Owureku-Asare has built a distinguished career as a food scientist, specializing in postharvest technology, food safety, and innovative processing solutions that reduce losses and improve food security. She has collaborated with leading institutions and mentored numerous young professionals and entrepreneurs in the agrifood sector.
Dr. Owureku-Asare's distinguished career is marked by numerous accolades and recognitions. She is the 2024 recipient of the Glitz Africa Women of the Year honors for excellence in Technology, a testament to her significant contributions to the field. She was also recognized as a 2020 Aspen Global Innovator, a Norman E. Borlaug LEAP Scholar, a fellow of The African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), and a 2019 early career fellow of The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). She is also certified in the FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food course by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), demonstrating her commitment to food safety standards.
